This post has been requested a few times so I said I’d finally get around to it. My daily makeup routine doesn’t vary much from day to day. I like to stick to products that I know and trust, keeping my experimenting for occasions when I’m going for a more dramatic look. The majority of the products I use are extremely affordable. As a student, I love nothing more than finding dupes for high-end products, at a fraction of the price, so I’ll be sharing a few of these secrets with you in this post.
Before applying any makeup, I use the Garnier Moisture + in the ‘normal to dry skin’. Its RRP is around €12 in Boots but I’ve been getting it in Penneys for €4.50 for nearly 2 years so definitely try there first. It comes in a few different variations for various skin types. It’s essential to use a moisturiser before apply any makeup in order to smooth out any dryness and have a clean, blank canvas to work on. This is the ONLY product I use before applying concealer. Yeah that’s right, no primer. I honestly find it does nothing for my skin. I used to use the Benefit Porefessional just for the sake of using a primer because apparently it was ‘key’ but I found it was a waste of €30. My top tip would be to ensure the moisturiser has soaked into your skin before applying anything else, otherwise it’ll slide right back off.
Once my moisturiser has soaked in, I use my Sleek Corrector & Concealer palette in 02. It retails at around €10 and it’s honestly amazing. I apply it wherever I need a bit of coverage, usually around the nose, chin and anywhere I have spots. The setting powder included is a God send!
Next up – foundation. I’ve been using Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse for years and no other foundation comes close for me. I apply it over my concealer using my NIMA ‘Jane’ brush. The foundation is under a tenner and it goes on like a dream. I use 103 True Ivory when I’m not wearing tan, and 200 Soft Beige when I am.
Okay, so here’s one of my best beauty secrets. The Sleek Brow Kit is EXACTLY like Benefit Browzing, for 1/3 of the price! It comes in the same shades, and both have a tweezer and applicators. I use the Dark one from Sleek, but very sparingly as my brows are already very full and dark. I’d 100% recommend this kit, it’s incredible for €10.29!
I usually stick to natural enough shades of eyeshadow during the day, brows and coppers mostly, I’m loving Sleek i-Divine in Sunset at the moment. The Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay is also fantastic. Both palettes have a black shade so I usually line my lower lash line with this rather than using eyeliner, it makes the look more natural for daytime.
The rest of my eye makeup consists of wings and natural lashes using Rimmel Wake Me Up Wonderfull mascara (€7.99) and L’Oreal Super Liner Superstar (€10.99). My eyeliner wings are definitely my favourite part of my makeup look and I’m a total perfectionist about that. I recommend this eyeliner for anyone who finds the winged look tricky, the pen-like applicator is great and easier to master than a fluid-like product.
My contour routine is super simple, I just use one product to both highlight and bronze, the Sleek Duo Bronzer and Highlighter in Light (€7.99). Contouring definitely transforms the face so getting the hang of it is a makeup skill I think everyone needs to learn. Some people think contouring is just for the cheekbones but it also works wonders on your chin, nose and forehead, slimming them down and defining your entire face’s bone structure. My number one contouring tip is to build up product gradually rather than all at once, in order to avoid the ‘clown’ effect.
I usually wear a nude/brown lip all the time unless I’m going out, then I opt for red. I’m loving these nude lip products from Penneys, the matte lipstick is €2 and the liner is just €1.50. I also love the nude shades in the Rimmel Kate Moss collection. When choosing a liner to match your lipstick, make sure it’s only a shade or 2 darker than the lipstick, otherwise it’ll just look stupid and out of place.
The Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray is probably one of the most expensive beauty products I’ve purchased at €29 but it really does work amazingly well. I got it for my debs last year but now I use it almost every day and it keeps my makeup in place all day and night, without fail and regardless of the weather. Just make sure not to spray it too close to your face or it may cause your foundation to drip.
I hope you all enjoyed that little summation of my daily beauty routine, as always, any questions can be left below.
