Anyone who knows me well will tell you that I’m a sucker for quotes. Whatever the occasion, I’ll have a quote to match it. Personally, I find quotes motivational, inspirational and comforting. Here’s seven of my all time favourite quotes that I feel have immense wisdom and meaning behind them.
This ancient quote couldn’t be more accurate. There’s no better feeling that enjoying the work you do each and every day. Whatever path you chose in life, you should be able to wake up each morning and go to sleep each night feeling content and at ease with your choices. There really is nothing worse than having to struggle through a job you have no passion for whatsoever. Find something you’re passionate about and strive to excel at it. If your job feels like a hobby more so than a chore, you know you’re going in the right direction.
To me, this quote is the definition of complete independence and strength as an individual. Personally, I found this quote really helpful after coming out of a long term relationship that ended not so nicely. It helped me realise that I was 100% strong enough on my own and that I would build myself back up even stronger, despite the pain I was experiencing at the time. Regardless of the situation, whether it be in a relationship, friendship, or work related, it’s so important to remember that our own personal happiness must come first and that we make the best decision for ourselves.
As well all know, Oscar Wilde was an incredibly wise man and so is this quote. In a world bursting with opportunity, I can’t express enough how one should never ever settle for less than they deserve. If those closest to you don’t make you feel nothing short of wonderful, then they don’t deserve that place in your life. Never settle for mediocre when you can have first class.
Banish as much negativity from your life as possible. We put up with so much bullsh*t in order to satisfy those we care most for, even when they don’t put in the same effort or commitment. Often those we would never expect to hurt us are the very people that have the most negative impact on us. There comes a time when we realise our own worth and how we deserve so much more. Life is far too short to settle for second best, you deserve it all, and if they can’t give you that, I promise someone else can and will.
I came across this when I was writing my Wanderlust blog post and it’s one of the most inspirational and thought provoking quotes I’ve ever read. When I decided to go to Uganda next summer as a volunteer, I did so out of pure selflessness. One of the nicest feelings you can feel is knowing that you’ve made a positive impact on another life, purely out of kindness. Yes, volunteering is about donating what’s yours, whether it be time or money, but what we gain is far more valuable, in my opinion.
Regardless of who you are or what you do, people are going to criticise, because that’s life. Never try to conform to people’s expectations, and as cliche as it may sound, just be exactly who and what you want to be. Be the best at what you do.
